anko: Linux doesn't have to be hard. WINE, Steam's Linux support, Lutris, etc are getting good enough that lots of games just work. There's desktop environments looks like Windows, too.

programmingsocks: I've been running the QA shard in a Windows VM on bare metal Linux server. I plan to virtualize everything eventually. Someday way off we could probably get CoH working directly in Linux.

ryokan: The only times I used a VM was VirtualBox and it had piss poor performance for Sudden Strike a 2D tactics game.

programmingsocks: The VirtualBox hypervisor runs in userspace. I use the KVM hypervisor which runs in the kernel for much better performance. Performance is so good that I can game with it if I pass through a physical GPU.
